Seminar held to guide students on career, higher education paths
Guwahati: School of technology at Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) recently hosted a career counselling seminar titled “Exploring Career Opportunities, Higher Education, and Employability Skills”. The event was jointly organised by the department of mechanical engineering and the career guidance cell of the university.
The session was led by Buljit Buragohain, head of the department of mechanical engineering and chairperson of the career guidance cell. He outlined diverse career options available to engineering graduates and discussed competitive examinations such as the engineering services examination (ESE) and the graduate aptitude test in engineering (GATE), explaining their significance and offering preparation strategies.
He emphasised the importance of internships and project work during graduation for gaining practical exposure, strengthening professional skills, and enhancing employability. He also discussed higher education pathways, advising students to select postgraduate programmes that align with their interests, aptitude, and long-term goals.
Encouraging innovation and self-reliance, he presented entrepreneurship as a promising career avenue and urged students to cultivate leadership and creative thinking. He concluded with guidance on interview preparation and key employability skills, highlighting effective communication, continuous upskilling, and professional readiness as essential for success in today’s job market.
