Guwahati: The number of voters in Kamrup (Metro) district, which covers Guwahati city areas, has increased from 10.58 lakh (as of Jan 2025) to 10.75 lakh in the integrated draft of the special revision published on Saturday. The draft includes 521,388 male voters, 554,151 female voters, and 37 third-gender voters.
During door-to-door verification, booth-level officers identified 24,163 voters as deceased and 21,154 voters who had shifted from their earlier place of enrolment. A total of 3,822 voters have been tagged as ‘D’ (doubtful voters), who are not eligible to vote at present, though their names remain on the list. Another 912 have been identified as service voters.
The overall increase in voter percentage is 1.63, with the highest rise of 2.53% recorded in the Jalukbari assembly constituency, represented by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The increase was 2.01% in Dispur, 1.53% in Dimoria (SC), 1.15% in Guwahati Central, and 0.79% in New Guwahati.
Among constituencies, Dispur has the highest number of voters at 249,746, followed by Dimoria (SC) with 221,099, Jalukbari with 210,624, Guwahati Central with 198,091, and New Guwahati with 196,016.
Kamrup (Metro) district commissioner Sumit Sattawan said, “From today to Jan 22, people will be able to file claims and objections. During this period, on Jan 3, 4, 10, and 11, special camps will be organised in our district where people can submit their claims and objections.”
He said all claims and objections will be disposed of by Feb 2, and the final electoral roll ahead of the 2026 assembly election will be published on Feb 10. He said 2.93 lakh households have been identified in the district.
Of the 14,755 new voters, most are aged 17 plus and will become eligible to vote next year.
“All voters may visit their respective polling stations to check their names in the draft electoral roll. If the name of any eligible person is not included, or if there is any objection regarding inclusion, correction of particulars, or transfer of name, the prescribed Forms No. 6, 6 (A), 7, and 8 may be filled and submitted between 27-12-2025 and 22-01-2026,” the district administration said in a release.
A total of 105 new polling stations have been created during rationalisation, taking the district’s total to 1,218. The names of deceased, shifted, and “D” voters remain part of the 10.75 lakh total until claims and objections are processed. Citizens who will attain the age of 18 on April 1, July 1, or Oct 1, 2026, may also submit claims in advance for inclusion using Form-6.
