: Forty students staying at a pre-metric boys' hostel in Jewargi
town were hospitalized following a suspected bout of food poisoning late on Tuesday late night. After dinner, the boys complained of uneasiness and nausea. Ten of them were admitted to the Jewargi taluk hospital. When they started vomiting, they were rushed to the district hospital.
The hostel warden, too, was among those hospitalized. The hostel is run by the backward and minorities department.
The social welfare department will hold an enquiry into the incident, said Kannada and culture minister Umashree here on Wednesday. The minister who was on her way to Bidar stopped en route at the hospital when she heard the news.
Four boys were admitted to a private hospital as there was no ventilator in the district hospital.Doctors claim that this happened due to food poisoning. Apart from 34 students eight students have been treating at taluk hospital and rest 34 were in district hospital. four children have been taken to the nearby private hospital because of ventilator were not available at hospital.
Hospital superintendent Nalini Namoshi said that there are only two ventilators in the paediatrics department. The students will be under observation for 48 hours, she said. Deputy commissioner S N Prasannakumar rushed to the hostel in the night and helped students. There are 130 students in the hostel. But on Tuesday, there were only 44 as the rest had gone home for Nagarapanchami. Three of the boys who did not have dinner did not fall sick.

The DC has ordered the suspension of hostel superintendent Krishnappa and also taluk officer, Vijayalakshmi Kobal who did not take the DC's call on Tuesday night. She did not visit the hospital on Wednesday either. Prasannakuar has issued an order of suspension of taluka officer Vijayalakshmi Kobal and hostel superintendant Krishnappa. Gulbarga: Senior officers of social welfare department will hold an enquiry and about the food poison of 40 students of government backward pre-metric boys hostel in Jewargi town told social and welfare minister Umashri here on Wednesday. While she was going to Bidar she heard news of students fell sick she visited the district hospital and said the action will be taken against those who have caused to this incident said Umashri. She encouraged the parents of the students and said they will soon get well. After getting the medical report which caused to the incident the action will be taken against those who did the wrong.
