`Man of vision' Heggade honoured

Praises were showered on Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and president of SDM Education Society, D Veerendra Heggade, at a function organized at Janata Shikshana Samiti campus here on Thursday on the occasion of his 60th birth day.

DHARWAD: Praises were showered on Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and president of SDM Education Society, D Veerendra Heggade, at a function organized at Janata Shikshana Samiti campus here on Thursday on the occasion of his 60th birth day.
Religious heads, scholars, journalists, administrators and political leaders gathered at the venue to pay tributes to Heggade.

Pejawar Mutt seer Viswhesha Teerthaswami, Shivaratri Deshikendraswami of Suttur Mutt, Siddhalingaswami of Tontadarya Mutt and Shivayogiswami of Murugha Mutt, veteran journalist Patil Puttappa, poet Channaveera Kanavi, assembly Speaker Jagadeesh Shettar, council chairman Veeranna Mattigatti, MP Prahlad Joshi, water resources minister Basavaraj Bommai, legislators and corporators were present to greet Heggade. The speakers hailed his services rendered to the society.
They described him as "a man of vision, dedication, action and character". Recalling the services of Heggade in the field of education, religion, rural development and health among others, the speakers wished him long life and said his achievements are worth emulating.
Suttur Mutt seer inaugurated the new building of D Veerendra Heggade Institute of Management Studies and Research and felicitated Heggade and his wife Hemavati. The traditional chanting of hymns by artistes from Dakshina Kannada added fervour to the event.
Jayateerthacharya Malagi delivered the felicitation address. Sangeeta Katti enthralled the audience with her melodious rendering of Bendre's poems.
Acknowledging the honour, Heggade attributed his achievements to God's grace and team work. Principal Ajit Prasad proposed a vote of thanks. Earlier in the day, over 10,000 students gathered at JSS Campus and offer `Guru Vandana' to Heggade.
