Private borewells tapped to meet drinking water needs in Dharwad dist
Dharwad: With summer intensifying and water supply disruptions reported in 14 villages, the district administration has stepped in to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water by utilising private borewells.DC Snehal R stated on Thursday that the district administration, in coordination with zilla panchayat, has already initiated precautionary measures to prevent any shortage of drinking water and essential services. She emphasised that advance planning has been undertaken to mitigate the impact of the summer.As part of these preparations, a comprehensive survey was conducted to identify vulnerable areas. A total of 90 villages across various taluks were classified as water-stressed. To address potential scarcity, 186 private borewells were identified, and agreements were signed with their owners to facilitate water supply during emergencies.In Dharwad taluk, 30 out of 115 villages were facing water shortages. Around 60 private borewells have been secured, and water is currently being supplied to Hosatti, Mandihal, Belur, Mugad, Managundi, and Shibaragatti villages. Similarly, in Hubballi taluk, 19 of the 46 villages were found to be water-deficient.
The administration has arranged 30 private borewells, with supply presently underway in Noolvi, Adargunchi, and Kuradikere villages.In Kalaghatagi taluk, 16 out of 87 villages were identified as water-scarce. A total of 46 private borewells have been brought under agreement, and water is being supplied to Nelliharavi Tanda, B Hulikatti, Dyamanakonda, Mukkal, and Hire Hunasikatti villages.The DC reiterated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring that no village faces drinking water crisis during peak summer.
