“The plaque has been put up on the stretch recently and soon an official programme will be organised to mark the formal renaming of the road," SCB chief executive officer, SVR Chandra Sekar, told TOI. Locals residing on the stretch and commercial establishments housed on the road can use the new name during official correspondence, he said.
It is for the first time in Secunderabad Cantonment's history that a road has been renamed. Originally named after Brigadier General John Ni cholson, who is said to have played a key role in suppressing the 1857 mutiny in Delhi, the road has now been renamed after Param Vir Chakra recipient 2nd Lt Arun Khetar pal, who was martyred in the 1971Indo-Pak war.

Based on the MoD's instructions, the matter was put before the SCB on June 13, 2017.Accordingly , the SCB unanimously passed a resolution to rename the road after an Indian braveheart. As per the SCB resolution, Nicholson was also involved in committing barbaric acts against Indians.
