HYDERABAD: Four officials, including a Transco engineer one day before his retirement, were trapped by the ACB at various places in the state on Friday.
Tranco chief engineer K Madhusudana Rao with only 24 hours left for his retirement was caught red-handed by the ACB sleuths when he was receiving bribe from a contractor in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The Eastern Power Disribution Company Limited (EPDCL) CE demanded Rs 40,000 from a contractor Vara Prasad for doing an official favour.
The contractor has already given Rs 25,000 but the engineer has been demanding the remaining money. The sleuths trapped him while he was accepting the balance Rs 10,000 from the contractor at his residence at Santhipuram near NAD Junction. A case has been registered.
Sullurpet law and order circle inspector V Kaleshavali was trapped by the ACB while accepting bribe from A Suresh, an accused in a case of purchasing an unregistered car, in Nellore district. Suresh came to an agreement with the CI to pay an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh to bail him out of the case. He had already paid Rs 1 lakh and it was during the payment of the second instalment that the ACB laid a trap for the CI. Suresh complained to the ACB on the role of local SI G Satyanarayana also, it is learnt. The ACB officials conducted raids on the office of the CI and took him into custody along with three other cops.
Banaganapalle tehsildar N Venkateswarlu and Nandivargam VRO Raghava Reddy were caught red-handed by the ACB officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from one S Chandrasekar Achari in Kurnool district. The officials demanded the bribe from Achari for granting a no-objection certificate for carrying out mining in his land situated in Banaganapalle mandal.
