Hyderabad: A 26-year-old accountant of a private hospital allegedly died by suicide by after jumping into Durgam Cheruvu on Friday. A missing person complaint was lodged at Nagole PS on the same day, and the body was identified on Saturday. Police said that the victim was unable to repay a hand loan she had taken at the request of a friend. As pressure from the lender mounted, she allegedly resorted to the extreme step.

Roja Ramani, a resident of Nagole. Madhapur police received information from locals at around 11 am on May 29 that an unidentified woman jumped into Durgam Cheruvu. With the help of HYDRAA personnel, police retrieved the body and shifted it for postmortem. Meanwhile, the family of Ramani approached Nagole police at around 11 pm and lodged a missing person complaint.
On the morning of May 30, Nagole police learned about the body retrieved from Durgam Cheruvu and alerted Ramani’s family, who subsequently identified it. “During the preliminary investigation, we found that Ramani taken a loan at the request of a friend. However, her friend failed to repay the amount, following which the lender began pressuring Ramani to clear the loan. We suspect that she died by suicide due to the stress. We are collecting information, and registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of BNSS will be transferred to Nagole PS, where a missing case has been registered,” Madhapur Inspector D Krishna Mohan said.
