HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old youth, son of an income tax commissioner, died in a
road accident in the city on Sunday.
Kotha Abhiram, son of Kotha Hari Prasad, a 1979-batch IRS officer currently posted as commissioner of income tax, New Delhi, and a resident of Hill Ridge Springs gated community in Gachibowli, died when a Hyundai Verna he was travelling in crashed into a road divider in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Raidurgam police, Abhiram was attending training classes at a city-based institute to become an anchor and model.
The mishap occurred at around 3am near Microsoft office on the IIIT-ISB stretch when Abhiram's car crashed into the road divider. According to Raidurgam inspector A Balakoti, the mishap took place when Abhiram, Y Sushivant, a businessman from Krishna district, and Harish, a medical student from Hyderabad, were heading towards Gachibowli after having a party at Novotel Hotel in Madhapur.
"Sushivant, who was driving the car, lost control over the vehicle, probably due to overspeeding, and crashed into the road divider. Abhiram, who was sitting on the left side of the rear seat, suffered severe injuries and died on the spot," the inspector said.
As Sushivant and Harish were sitting on the front seat and wore seat belts, they managed to escape with minor injuries, police said. Police suspect that the driver was in an inebriated condition when the incident happened. Immediately after the accident, the Raidurgam police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. The body of Abhiram was shifted to Osmania General Hospital. After the post-mortem, it was handed over to his family members in the evening.
Police have booked a case against Sushivant under sections 304-A (Causing death due to rash or negligent act) and 337 (Causing injuries due to rash or negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In another incident, a 42-year-old ex-serviceman, Sk Shakeel, of FCI Colony in Vanasthalipuram died when his two-wheeler crashed into a road divider in Gurramguda on Sagar highway on Saturday night.
Shakeel was working as a supervisor at L&T office in Adibhatla village. On Saturday, at around 11.30pm, Shakeel was returning home along with his colleague Shiva Kumar Goud on a two-wheeler. "At Gurramguda, Shiva, who was riding the bike, lost control over the vehicle due to negligent driving and hit a road divider. Both Shiva and pillion rider Shakeel fell on the road. Shakeel, who suffered severe head injuries, died on the spot.
Shiva was rushed to the hospital," Vanasthalipuram sub-inspector (SI) K Bhaskar Rao said.
On Sunday morning, the victim's family members approached the police expressing doubts over Shakeel's death. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family, police have booked a case against Shiva under section 304-A of the IPC and shifted the body for a post-mortem. Shiva's was said to be out of danger.
