Hyderabad: Six Backward Class communities seeking changes to their caste names are likely to get approval at the upcoming cabinet meeting in early May.
The proposal, delayed from the previous meeting, gained momentum during the recent caste survey, where members said their current names had evolved into derogatory labels affecting education, jobs, and social perception.
Communities including Pitchiguntla, Tammali, Veeramushti, Budabukkala, and Dommara have pushed for revisions, though some remain divided over alternatives. Officials say the move, if cleared, would go beyond an administrative step, aiming to restore dignity and remove long-standing social stigma.
