Hyderabad: A Cricket bookie Amit Niranjan Doshi from Hyderabad, who allegedly has punters in various parts of the city, was nabbed by Task Force sleuths on Monday along with his four other associates. Amit allegedly operates a casino in Goa.
Task Force sleuths said that the accused - Amit Niranjan Doshi, B Bhupal Yadav, Nikhil Gupta, Praveen Sarna,
Yash Kumar Arora- were arrested from Sindhi Colony.
From the accused police seized 15 lakh cash, 23 mobile phones, and different communication gadgets used for betting.
Police said Amit employed various persons in different parts of India to organise betting. These associates, in turn, hired several persons to work with them on a commission basis. Amit allegedly has been running the betting for the last four years with the other four accused persons.
Amit was previously arrested by Gandhi Nagar police and Ramgopalpet police. “Several years ago, he was arrested on the charge of organising gambling inside a star hotel in the city,” cops said.
The accused were handed over to the local police, who need to find out the persons who developed the mobile App through which the bookies communicated with the punters during the Cricket betting. Police are in the process of freezing the bank accounts of Amit by writing letters to the banks concerned.
