Hyderabad: Three days after Rs 23 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from his car at Nizampet, a driver was arrested on Monday. KPHB police alleged the seized amount was being transported from Nizampet to Malkajgiri to distribute it among voters.
The arrested driver, M Srinivas Goud, 40, is from Nallakunta. On Friday, KPHB police, who were performing vehicle check at Holistic Hospital in Nizampet, intercepted a Ritz (AP28DL 0502) driven by Srinivas Goud.
On seeing police, two other men — B Krishna Reddy of Vikarabad and Raghavendar of Nizampet, who were in the car — disembarked from the vehicle and fled from the spot.
Police had seized Rs 23 lakh unaccounted cash in the car and booked a case under Section 171-B r/w 171-E and 171-C r/w 171-F of the IPC on Saturday after obtaining court permission.
On Monday, police arrested Srinivas Goud and he confessed that he was working as a driver for Raghavendar Reddy of Kondapur and, on the instructions of his employer, he took the car from one T Revanth Reddy on Friday and then picked up Krishna Reddy from Vikarabad and Raghavendar Reddy from Nizampet. “When Krishna Reddy and Raghavendar Reddy, both followers of Congress, were going towards KPHB Colony with the cash to distribute it among voters of the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency on behalf of the Congress contestant, we seized the cash. Other accused are absconding,” ACP, Kukatpally, B Surendar Rao said.
