The gang used to approach gullible people and offer them fake notes for circulation at a lesser price. They used to fill a suitcase with wads of 'currency' notes, white papers below with fake Rs 50 notes on top. As soon as they receive the original notes, one of the gang members used to scream that police have raided the premises and flee with the suitcase.
The four arrested are natives of Karnataka. They were identified as Chandrakanth Neelakantappa Choudary (37), a resident of Syed Ali Chabutra, R Anand (44) and Aswini (25) - both residents of Bidar - and Babu Rao Dhale, (46), a farmer and resident of Latur. The kingpin of the gang, Sangramappa, a native of Bidar and resident of Erragadda, is absconding. Sangramappa was earlier involved in a similar offence, police said.
