HYDERABAD: Two accused involved in the Saroornagar ‘honour killing' case acted on their own and did not receive any kind of assistance or support from anyone, according to Saroornagar police. The duo also did not have any affiliation to any organisation as speculated by some politicians.
The five-day police custody of ‘honour killing' case accused — Syed Mobin Ahmed, 28, a fruit vendor from Balanagar, and his brother-in-law Mohammed Masood Ahmed, 29, a car mechanic from Serilingampally — ended on Monday.
On May 4 night, the duo had killed B Nagaraju, who married Mobin's sister Ashrin Sultana against the wishes of her family, at Saroornagar in full public view.
Following the murder, a city-based MLA alleged that the accused must be having links to certain political outfits. Police verified the background of the two accused by talking to their friends, family members and people from their native places. “The duo do not have any affiliation to any political outfits,” a Saroornagar police officer said.
To verify if the two accused had received support or guidance from anyone else in planning or executing the murder, police verified their call records. “There were no suspicious calls or movements of the accused. Other than the immediate family members, they were not in contact with anyone else on the day of the murder. They did not seek support from anyone to execute the murder,” a police officer said
Scene reconstruction was also done with the accused showing the cops how they had planned and executed the murder. Police said that
Masood Ahmed, who uses his cell number as email ID and password, gave the idea of trying the same method to gain access to Nagaraju's gmail account and luckily it worked, providing access to the location of the victim through ‘Find My Device’ app.
According to police, Mobin, who is a native of Ghanpur village which is close to Nagaraju's native place Marpally, knew about his background and decided to end his life after his sister married him despite his repeated warnings to keep away from him.
