HYDERABAD: A housewife allegedly hanged herself to death at Nampally on Monday. Based on the allegations of her family members, police booked a case against her husband and took him into custody.
On March 12, Bhanu alias Purnima, 25, got married to Narsinga Rao, a painter from Laxmi Nagar in Nampally.
On Monday evening, Purnima's sister-in-law, Manjula, who returned home from work, noticed that the main door was locked from inside and tried calling her.

As there was no response for a long time, Manjula grew suspicious and alerted the neighbours, who managed to open the rear door. Purnima was found hanging to the ceiling fan with a chunni, Nampally inspector Ch Sridhar said.
Family members of the victim alleged that she committed suicide due to mental harassment from Narsinga Rao. "They alleged that Rao never allowed his wife to talk to her parents and go out on her own," the inspector said.
Based on the complaint, police slapped cases against Rao under sections 498-A (subjecting married woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment to commit suicide) of the IPC and took him into custody.
