HYDERABAD: The GHMC s proposing a new link road from the Old Bombay Highway at the International School to Road No 1, Film Nagar. Residents of Film Nagar, Prashasan Nagar and Jubilee Hills areas can reach the international airport without any traffic hassles when the link road is developed.
This road will not only reduce the distance to Film Nagar but also reduce the time to reach the airport.
As of now, the residents of Film Nagar and its surrounding areas have to go through Mehdipatnam to go to the international airport at Shamshabad.
With this new road, the distance to the airport will reduced by 6-7 km and also cut travel time by more than half-an-hour.
Similarly, traffic from highway to Hi-Tec City can pass through this link road. Officials said already 1-km stretch from from Bhratiya Vidya Bhavan School on Road No 1, Film Nagar, to Matosri Apartment near Ramanaidu Studios is being widened to 120 ft at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Widening of this road will be completed by the end of this month.
From Matosri Apartment to Old Bombay Highway, the new link road is proposed for a stretch of 1 km. This road is expected to be ready in the next six months. "The road will be laid with 120 ft width along Kotha Chervu and Whisper Valley to Old Bombay Hihghway.
For this road, a piece of Wakf open land and that of the International School will have to be acquired," an officer in charge of this project told 'TOI'. Tenders have already been called by the corporation.
To benefit the surrounding colonies of Kotha Chervu, entire lake bunds will have 60 ft road up to Mallik Cars.
