HYDERABAD: A 31-year-old sarpanch in Nirmal district who had allegedly attempted suicide, died when the vehicle taking her to hospital crashed en route on Friday.
Durgam Laharika, sarpanch of Masayipet village in Kadem mandal, allegedly tried to kill herself at her residence after a heated argument with her husband Rajesh.
While being taken to the hospital, the driver of the car, which was reportedly moving at a high speed, lost control.
The car crashed into a stationary tractor parked on the roadside, causing severe damage and worsening Laharika's condition. Despite efforts to get her medical help, she died before reaching the hospital.
Laharika was reportedly facing personal issues with her husband. According to Kadem sub-inspector Sai Kiran, the couple were involved in frequent disputes.
Recently, Laharika left for her maternal home after an argument but later returned to attend an official programme in the village.
Police reached the spot and registered a case. An investigation is underway.
