HYDERABAD: The
Congress has demanded that the state government set up a special investigation team to probe into alleged torture by Medak police that led to the death of daily wage worker Md Abdul Qadeer Khan.
Former Congress minister
Shabbir Ali demanded that the police personnel involved in the act should be immediately booked and arrested for murder and a compensation of Rs50 lakh should be paid to the bereaved family members of the deceased.
He also demanded that home minister Mahmood Ali should react to the issue.
Shabbir Ali said that the BRS government should not try to cover up the custodial torture as the tall claims of 'friendly policing' by the ruling party have gone for a toss. "Qadeer Khan was first picked up from the Old City as a suspect in a theft case. He was brutally tortured for five days in a police station in Medak and then placed under illegal house arrest. He was denied medical help although he suffered multiple fractures, spine dislocation and renal failure. He had to escape house arrest to get himself admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad. The victim himself recorded a video narrating how he was tortured by the police," Shabbir Ali alleged.
He found fault with AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi. "MIM leader went to Bharatpur in Rajasthan to meet families of Junaid and Nasir who were murdered by the right-wing goons. But why didn't
Asaduddin Owaisi visit Qadeer Khan at hospital? he asked.
