With no HC relief, Union minister Bandi Sanjay's son finally surrenders
HYDERABAD: Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay's son, Bandi Bageerath, surrendered before the Telangana police on Saturday night at around 8 pm. He was later taken to Narsingi police station.
Bageerath has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a minor girl's family accused him of sexually abusing her.
Officials said Bageerath surrendered near the Telangana State Police Academy on the Outer Ring Road. He was wearing a hoodie and a mask at the time. Sanjay also issued a statement claiming that he made his son surrender as he felt that a lot of time had passed since the complaint had been registered.
After the high court refused to grant Bageerath interim protection from arrest on Friday night, police officials had intensified efforts to trace him. Cyberabad police officials had even issued a look out circular (LOC) against Bageerath after investigating officials had searched various locations, including Bandi Sanjay's official residence in New Delhi on Friday night but had been unable to track him down
"Immediately after the case was registered against my son, I considered bringing him to the police. Based on the advice given by my lawyers we tried to get bail, which led to a delay,'' Sanjay said.
Meanwhile, the survivor's statement was recorded before a magistrate on Saturday.
