Imphal: Workers of 10 political parties clashed with police at the Kangla main gate while marching towards the Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to governor Anusuya Uikey to resolve the present crisis in the state.
Leaders of AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI (M), INC, JD(U), NCP, RSP and SS (UBT), including former CM Okram Ibobi Singh, had taken part in the rally.
A large police force was stationed in the area to stop the gathering. Expressing concern over the sectarian strife, the former CM said the I.N.D.I.A. alliance bloc in Manipur will fight the ruling administration to defend democracy in the country.
“Where does the future of the Constitution lie since the ruling government has been violating every citizen’s right, particularly freedom of speech and expression?” Ibobi asked. The memorandum submitted to the governor highlights the failure of the state and central machinery in managing the serious crisis of law and order in the state. It says local civil societies have been trying to fill the gap of missing governance by resorting to various forms of agitation and pronouncements.
