The councillor's son, Sahil, was allegedly upset over his father's third marriage and officers believe that simmering family tensions led him to plot the killing.

At the time of attack, Rubina was returning to her rented home from her maternal house in Madarpura. As she reached near the residence in an auto, two youths arrived on a motorcycle. One of them repeatedly stabbed her in the abdomen, chest and head before fleeing. She was rushed to the district hospital by Shahid in a severely injured condition, where doctors declared her dead.Investigators said that a power outage at the time of the incident prevented nearby CCTV cameras from recording the attack. However, footage from surrounding areas was examined, and police claimed the evidence pointed towards involvement of the councillor's son."Both Sahil and his neighbour were arrested in the murder case," said ASP Baghel.
