Girls hostel toilets stain Swachh culture
Indore: Washrooms at girls’ hostels of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) are like stains on Swachh culture of Indore. What prolong the inmates’ hellish experience are their repeated complaints falling on deaf years.
Leaking ceilings, non-functional pad incinerators to no regular cleaning work have made hostellers worst nightmares come true. “The washroom in our hostel is pathetic.

It stinks so bad that we feel sick as we enter. The varsity has given washing machines but there are no sockets to use it. Despite several complaints, officials have not regulated sanitation work,” said a hosteller on condition of anonymity. According to hostellers, the situation worsens especially on top floors. DAVV has five girls’ hostels and out of which the sanitation work of two hostels — New Kamala Nehru Girls Hostel and Kamala Nehru Girls Hostel has been outsourced. “According to contract, cleaning of washrooms has to be done twice a day. Girls do complain. I forward the issue to concerned officials,” said chief warden of girls’ hostels Dr Namrata Sharma. All five hostels have two floors besides ground floor. Each floor has three washrooms and three bathrooms in both left and right wings of the building.
Chief warden Ajay Tiwari said that the payment wasn’t done to the agency for which work stopped.
“All work had been delayed due to absence of vice chancellor. Now, that the new VC has come, everything is getting back on track. I haven’t kept any file pending from my end,” he added.
