Kumedi ISBT likely to start operations in one month

Indore: The inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) located at Kumedi, which will help make bus services available for northern routes, is expected to get operational in next one month.

Indore Development Authority (IDA) board has appointed a Pune-based company for the operation and maintenance of the ISBT. The decision resolves a long-standing deadlock that had kept the bus terminal non-functional for nearly 18 months as there was no agency to manage its operations. Previous attempts to appoint an agency had failed as either no bidders came forward or they were unable to meet the technical requirements.

Built by IDA, the fully air-conditioned Kumedi ISBT has been designed as a state-of-the-art transit hub which would primarily cater to northern and western long-distance routes, connecting Indore to cities such as Ujjain, Ratlam, Bhopal, Delhi, and various destinations in Rajasthan.

IDA CEO Parikshit Zade told TOI that commercial operations were expected to commence within next month. “The activation of this terminal will significantly reduce traffic congestion within the city area. It will also serve as a vital hub for pilgrims during the upcoming Simhastha in Ujjain,” Zade said.

A major highlight of the project is its direct integration with Indore Metro network, which will ensure seamless multimodal transit connectivity for passengers.
