Stones pelted at Vande Bharat near Ujjain rly station
Ujjain: Unidentified people pelted stones at Vande Bharat Express train near Ujjain railway station on Monday night, leaving five coaches with damaged windows.
The incident, described as the first major stone-pelting attack on the premier train service in the city, occurred around 7:30 pm near Gada Pulia, around 200 metres from Ujjain railway station, as the train was making its way from Ujjain to Indore.
The train had arrived in Ujjain via Itarsi and Bhopal when unidentified assailants hurled stones at it in the stretch between Gada Pulia and the Neelganga railway track.
The projectiles struck in quick succession, shattering the windows of five coaches one after another. Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the attack, though the sudden and repeated impacts threw the train into chaos.
The train was not stopped at the site and proceeded to Ujjain railway station on schedule, where the incident came to the attention of railway police.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) police station in-charge Narendra Yadav confirmed that no passengers had sustained injuries but acknowledged the extent of damage to the train. “No one was hurt, but five coaches have suffered window damage,” he said, adding that CCTV footage from the area was being reviewed to identify the accused.
Officers from the RPF reached the affected coaches, inspected the damage, and recorded statements from passengers on board. The RPF’s Ujjain unit has since registered a case against unidentified accused and launched a search operation to trace those responsible.
