Saffron party’s plan to grab power in Maharashtra falls to pieces, says Ashok Gehlot

JAIPUR: Taking a dig at the fall of BJP government in Maharashtra, chief minister Ashok Gehlot in a series of tweets said that developments related to government formation in Maharashtra on the Constitution Day (Tuesday) will thankfully restore people’s faith in constitutional principles. The day coincided with judicial and political events forcing Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to resign as the latter expressed inability to have numbers.
“As was evident since beginning, BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis ji had taken oath without majority numbers. BJP falsely claimed support of NCP MLAs and tried to form a govt in a treacherous manner, in connivance with the Governor. Now, their entire power grabbing plan has fallen through,” tweeted Gehlot, who has been on the fore attacking the BJP central leadership over the formation of its government in Maharashtra.
Mincing no words in his criticism on social media, Gehlot said, “BJP bent every rule and manipulated democratic procedures in its brazen pursuit of power. Ruling party's undemocratic, unethical functioning has been defeated.”
Earlier in the day, while celebrating Indian Constitution’s 70th anniversary at Birla Auditorium, Gehlot accused BJP of tarnishing the constitution by forming its government misusing the constitutional powers. He slammed the role of Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and sought his resignation. “The manner in which government was formed without having numbers, the governor should tender his resignation on moral grounds. It is clear that governor acted under the pressure of home minister Amit Shah,” said Gehlot.
Governor Kalraj Mishra said that Constitution for Indians is like Geeta, Veda and Manusmriti. “It is high time that youths should be made aware of our Constitution to make them a better citizen,” said Mishra, while underlining the importance of constitution to the India culture, he added that “Indian constitution is a reflection of Indian culture. Rig Veda and Arth Ved talks about assemblies,” said Mishra.
