Jaipur: A fresh tussle between residents of 15 colonies in Malviya Nagar and the Jaipur Development Authority has erupted after the civic body allegedly signed an agreement with a private entity to convert a public park on JLN Marg into a private hospital.Speaking to TOI, Uma Sharma, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association of Adinath Colony, alleged that JDA had recently entered into an agreement to permit construction of a private hospital on the ‘Adinath Nagar’ Public Park. She claimed that the proposed project would also cover the protected ‘OTS Malviya Nagar Drain’ and its 30-metre buffer strip along the main JLN Marg.“We have genuine information about this deal. The JDA entered into this agreement despite an ongoing court case. The next date of case hearing is May 18. We are waiting for that day. Then all the residents of the 15 colonies – who use this park – will protest,” said Sharma. The residents said that JDA plans to use 17,433 square yards of the land that had earlier been developed as a public park by the authority at a cost of Rs 4 crore. They pointed out that thousands of trees were planted during the park’s development, making it a vital green space in the locality.
“This park serves as the only public park for the residents of approximately 15 surrounding colonies; there is no other public park available anywhere within a vast radius of this area. Renowned hospitals such as EHCC, Fortis, Rajasthan Hospital, and Jaipuria Hospital—along with approximately 10 other medical facilities are already operating in the area. What is the use of another private hospital in such close vicinity?” questioned Sharma.
