JAMSHEDPUR: DIG (Kolhan), Ajay Linda, suspended Ghatshila police station in-charge, Shambhu Gupta, for forcibly taking Rs 2.70 lakh cash from a villager during a raid.
On January 3, Ghatshila police raided the house of Bankati village resident, Manorajan Mahakaud (50), on suspicion of hiding marijuana. The team led by Gupta had earlier recovered 500 gm marijuana from the field close to Mahakaud's house on the same day, prompting the police to conduct search at his house.
Detailed probe underwayThe police, however, did not find narcotics from the house during the raid.
Mahakaud's wife Mamata claimed that the OC forcibly took Rs 2.70 lakh cash from her after the raid. She further claimed that they had told Gupta that the money was kept for the medical treatment of Mahakaud who is suffering from kidney ailment.
On January 10, Mamata gave a representation to Linda when he visited Ghatshila SDPO office’s. On the direction of the DIG, SSP, Prabhat Kumar got the allegations probed by the ASP (law and order), Sumit Agarwal. "Prima facie, the claims (made by the woman) found to be correct, hence the OC has been suspended (with effect from January 14)," the DIG said. The DIG said that a detailed investigation is going on in this regard. There's no recovery of cash from the accused, Gupta, yet.
