Army Air Defence demonstrates combat readiness in high-intensity desert exercise
JAISALMER: In the context of the ongoing intense conflict between Iran and the United States, the Indian Army is continuously strengthening and rigorously testing its air defence systems.
In a significant display of operational preparedness, Air Defence Gunners of the Southern Command conducted a high-intensity field firing exercise in desert terrain, showcasing their capability to counter a wide range of modern aerial threats, including the growing challenge of drone warfare.
Senior Army officials were also present on the occasion of this exercise.
The exercise, carried out under realistic battlefield conditions, focused on precision engagement and rapid response against both conventional and emerging airborne targets. Officials stated that the drill was designed to validate the effectiveness of advanced air defence systems and the preparedness of troops in tackling evolving threats in contemporary conflict scenarios.
During the exercise, units demonstrated coordinated tracking, identification, and neutralization of targets simulating enemy aircraft, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and other aerial platforms. The integration of cutting-edge radar systems, surveillance equipment, and weapon platforms enabled seamless detection and engagement, highlighting the technological edge of Army Air Defence units.
Defence sources emphasized that the exercise comes at a time when drone warfare is increasingly shaping modern battlefields, necessitating constant upgrades in strategy, technology, and training.
The successful execution of such complex drills reflects the Army’s commitment to maintaining a high level of combat readiness and adaptability.
“The exercise has reinforced our capability to dominate the emerging aerial battlespace,” an official said, adding that continuous training in diverse terrains, including deserts, is critical to ensuring swift and effective responses in real-world scenarios.
The Southern Command, which oversees vast and strategically important regions, regularly conducts such exercises to enhance operational efficiency and inter-unit coordination. The desert environment, with its unique challenges of visibility, mobility, and extreme weather, provides an ideal testing ground for air defence operations.
Military experts note that with the rapid evolution of aerial threats, especially low-cost drones and swarm tactics, air defence units play a crucial role in safeguarding both military assets and civilian infrastructure.
The successful completion of the exercise underscores the Indian Army’s focus on modernisation and its readiness to tackle future warfare challenges with precision, agility, and technological superiority.
