Tamil actor Subhashini found dead in Chennai apartment after video call with husband

CHENNAI: Subhashini alias Sasvibala, a 36-year-old television actor from Sri Lanka, died by suicide at her rented apartment in Iyyappanthangal near Porur in Chennai on Sunday night. Police said the incident occurred during a video call with her husband, following a domestic dispute.Subhashini, who worked as a supporting actor in television serials and had also appeared in films, had married Bipin Chandran (38), a Bengaluru resident, in April 2024. The couple had been living in Bengaluru.Police said she had rented an apartment in a private residential complex in Iyyappanthangal for her stay during shooting schedules in Chennai and had arrived in the city on March 3.On Sunday night, she was speaking to her husband over a video call when an argument broke out between them over a domestic issue. During the call, she allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan inside the apartment.Her husband, who witnessed the incident during the video call, alerted the apartment’s security personnel, who in turn informed the Porur police. A police team rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Poonamallee Government Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The body was later shifted to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
