Jodhpur: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad was sent back to Delhi by road right from Jodhpur airport on Wednesday evening. He had landed here in the afternoon and was to head to Jalore by road with his supporters to visit the family of Indra Meghwal, the class III student who allegedly died of thrashing by a school teacher.
Before this, police had stopped him at the airport lounge immediately after he landed at 2.35pm and kept him there for over 4 hours insisting that he should return.
When he refused, the police arranged to send him back by road.
DCP (East) Amrita Duhan did not disclose the destination where Azad was sent. “We had kept him restrained at the airport lounge and let him go where he had wanted”, she said.
Before this, police took him out of the airport and pushed him forcefully in a car, which headed straight to Delhi. A police officer from DST accompanied Azad to ensure that he reached Delhi, said police sources.
Jalore police have been swaying between investigating the case on one hand and roping in resources because of frantic visits of ministers, public representatives, political leaders to the deceased boy’s village.
On Wednesday also, the chief of Bhim Sena Satpal Tanwar visited the village and expressed condolences to the family. Health minister Parsadi Lal Meena was also expected to visit the village, but he shelved the plan.
A temporary police post has been set up in the village panchayat bhawan and an additional force comprising 700 policemen from six districts have been deployed there in view of the VIP visits, which see accompaniment of supporters of the visitors.
The village has been witnessing footfall of hundreds for the past 3 days, of which the maximum visits were witnessed on Tuesday, when leaders like Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra and former Dy CM Sachin Pilot reached the village with their large entourages.
