KANPUR: Four members of a family were convicted by the first additional district and sessions judge (Rama Bai Nagar), Rakesh Kumar, on Friday for committing murder and destroying evidence and sentenced them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 15,000 on each.
The sentenced persons were - Suresh Vishwakarma, his wife Bitola and two sons Susheel Kumar and Kamlesh Kumar, all residents of Shanti Nagar in Choubeypur town.
According to additional district government counsel Shambhu Nath, complainant Shivam Pandey's father Vijay Krishna Pandey had given a loan of Rs 50,000 to Bitola. Bitola and her husband were reluctant to return the money. On April 21, 2007, Susheel and Kamlesh came to Pandey's house and asked them to come to their house for money settlement. Vijay Krishna Pandey went to their house and thereafter did not return. In the evening, Shivam Pandey went there and enquired about his father.
The accused informed him that Vijay Krishna Pandey had gone to Kanpur after receiving money. Shivam's all efforts to trace his father went in vain thereafter.
Next day at around 4 pm, one Pappu Bhurjee informed the villagers that last evening when he was returning from Kanpur, he had met Suresh and his family. They were carrying something in a plastic bag tied on a cycle. Suresh told him that they were going to their home village Gopalpur to attend a marriage. Around 7 pm, Shivam received a message that an unidentified body was found in the area. He rushed to the police station where he was informed that body had been sent to mortuary.
At mortuary, he identified the body of his father.
Arguing the case, the ADGC said that accused had strangulated Vijay Krishna Pandey and thereafter to destroy the evidence, they threw the body at some isolated place.
Meanwhile, in another judgment, the additional district and sessions judge (IV), Ashok Kumar Singh, convicted a man and his son for a murder bid and sentenced them to seven and ten years rigorous imprisonment respectively.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each.
The sentenced persons were identified as Raghvendra Singh and his son Raja Bhaiyya.
According to the case file, the accused were involved in a dispute over a petty matter with complainant Rajendra Pal Singh, a fellow villager. On December 13, 2005, when Rajendra Pal Singh and his brother-in-law Jitendra were going to Bhoganipur, the accused followed them near Sengur river and opened fire on him with an intention to kill them.
Rajendra escaped but his brother-in-law Jitendra sustained bullet injuries.
