KANPUR: A 19-year-old acid attack survivor was shot at and critically injured at Shukrullapur railway station in Farrukhabad district on Wednesday.
The girl, identified as Rano (name changed), of Gusrapur area of the district sustained critical injury and is struggling for life at a hospital.
Reports said the girl and her mother were waiting at the station to board train to reach her sister's place in Aliganj locality of Etah district. "Two youths standing close to us at the station whipped out country-made firearms and fired at my daughter," said the girl's mother.
The two then escaped after scaling the boundary wall of the railway station before resorting to indiscriminate firing in order to create terror in the area.
"The girls mother has filed an FIR against unidentified miscreants following which a massive hunt has been launched to nab the assailants," said Farrukhabad SP Dinesh Kumar P.
Police sources said Rano, who earlier lived as a tenant in Sindhi colony area of Farrukhabad, was attacked with acid allegedly by one Rahul on February 16. The police registered a case in this regard and Rahul was sent to jail, but recently he was released following compromise between the two groups.
Police said that as per the girl's mother, she saw two youths following them but ignored. The girl has been hit in the back and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the police said.
