Jhansi: Following the recent spat between the junior resident doctors and
advocates in Prayagraj and arrest of junior resident from
his hometown in Rampur, the resident doctors of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical
College staged a protest outside the emergency department on Wednesday.
The strike was a part of the statewide strike
called by the resident doctor’s association (RDA). The strike which started
at 8.00 am was called off by 2.30 pm after assurance of proper
investigation.
The protesting
doctors claimed that more than 36 hours had passed since detention of second-year surgery resident, but neither had he been released nor had any information regarding his
whereabouts been made available to them.
The protest is linked to a recent incident involving an alleged altercation
with lawyers in Prayagraj. The resident doctors alleged that police action
was taken solely on the basis of one party's complaint.
Members of the RDA gathered outside the emergency ward and raised slogans
demanding transparency in the matter and the immediate release of their
colleague.
Principal Medical College Dr Sudhir Kumar said that despite the strike the
medical students have ensured that the emergency section and intensive care
unit (ICU) is not affected and services are being continued.
