Kanpur: Kanpur Bar Association on Wednesday called off the strike and asked the advocates to resume their legal work as their demands has been admitted in principle.
The advocates have been abstaining from judicial work since Tuesday last to lodge their protest against the arrest of advocate
Ashutosh Pathak.
According to Naresh Tripathi, president, Kanpur Bar Association, he had a telephonic conversation with ADP who has accepted all the demands.
An FIR has been registered against the postal employee who had thrashed the advocate. An inquiry will be held against the ACP and in-charge of Chakeri police station, he added.
Talking to TOI, Tripathi said, “ When the police officials have accepted all our demands, there is no use to continue the strike. I have called off the strike in the interest of litigants and advocates asking the advocate members to resume their judicial work”. After two days, he and other KBA members would review the situation and take appropriate action, he said.
Ashutosh Pathak, advocate, had a dispute with postal employees of the Chakeri post office on July 9 following which two FIRs were registered against Ashutosh under sections 332/504/506 IPC and under the Arms Act. His challan was sent to the remand magistrate from where his anticipatory bail was admitted.
On July 11, the advocate was called by the Chakeri police station on the pretext to collect his goods kept at the police station. When he reached the police station, the police arrested him under section 107/116 Cr P C and sent his challan to the police line. The advocate presented his bail application but instead of considering the same he was sent to jail by the ACP/Magistrate in vengeance which was against the law and also in violation of the apex court’s direction. Later, the advocates boycotted the judicial work on Tuesday.
