Kanpur woman accuses husband of forced relation, assault on first night; case filed

KANPUR: A 25-year-old woman in Kanpur has accused her husband of beating her on the first night, committing obscene acts and trying to force physical relations with her, police said. Taking cognisance of her complaint, police on Thursday registered a case against five people, including the husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law.In her written complaint to the police, the woman claimed, "My marriage took place on Feb 3, 2025, with a Naramau resident. On the first night, I refused to have a physical relationship due to menstruation. Upon this, my husband beat me and forced himself on me."She alleged that from the next day, her husband and in-laws started harassing her for more dowry. They also allegedly pressurised her to get a plot registered in the husband's name."When I protested, my husband beat me repeatedly and threatened to kill me. On June 4, 2025, I was thrown out of the house," the complaint alleged.She alleged, "On March 8, 2026, my husband abused and assaulted me at Kalyanpur railway station. The day after I filed a complaint, two unidentified persons threatened to kill me."Panki SHO Manoj Singh Bhadauriya said, "A case was registered on Thursday based on the victim's written complaint. The matter is being investigated and both parties are being questioned."
