Kottayam: Relatives of a woman who died during childbirth at Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Monday have alleged medical negligence against the hospital.
The deceased was Feba, 27, wife of Omanappuzha in Alappuzha. The relatives on Tuesday filed complaint with the police and the hospital superintendent, claiming that negligence on the part of the hospital authorities led to her death.
Feba was admitted to MCH on Saturday after being referred from Alappuzha. Following labour pains, she was moved to the labour room on Monday morning. Although doctors initially indicated a normal delivery, later a caesarean section was performed. After the surgery, doctors informed the relatives that the woman suffered cardiac arrest.
However, MCH authorities stated that there was no lapse on the part of the doctors, and the patient was stable until delivery. Unexpected complications during delivery led to the woman's death. An autopsy will provide accurate information on the cause of death, the authorities said.
