Kochi: Southwest monsoon is likely to reach parts of southern Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands by the end of this week, said IMD.
As a low-pressure area persists over southwest Bay of Bengal, the central meteorological department predicts that this low-pressure area may intensify further in the next 48 hours.
An upper air cyclonic circulation is present over southern Karnataka at an altitude of 5.8km above sea level.
Meanwhile, IMD warned that the state may receive isolated heavy rainfall from Thursday till Saturday. The weather agency has also forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain and lightning, along with strong winds gusting between 30 and 50 kmph during the period.
It has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod on Thursday. While on Friday Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad may receive heavy rains.
