ALAPPUZHA: A 45-year-old Mary Sweety, a Gulf returnee, who tried to go to Sabarimala second time on Saturday, was blocked at Chengannur Railway station here by protestors. Alappuzha district police chief S Surendran said that Mary, hailing from Kazhakootam, reached Chengannur railway station at 6.30pm and tried to go to Pamba in a KSRTC passenger bus parked on the railway station premises.
"However, the Ayyappa Nama Japa Yatra protestors and Sabarimala pilgrims blocked her. A police team led by Chengannur DySP Aneesh V Kora reached the spot and told her that it was not safe for her to go to Pamba now. She had come without `irumudikettu’. She agreed not to go and got into a bus to Thiruvananthapuram. Two women civil police officers gave her protection in the bus till the protestors went back. After that she left for her native place in a 7.30pm bus,’’ said the police chief.
The DySP said Mary told the police that she just wanted to see Pamba and so she had come to Chengannur.
