Youth slips off rock in Marayoor, dies

Idukki: A 29-year-old man died after slipping from a rock at the Peradi Pallam waterfalls area in Marayoor in Idukki. The deceased has been identified as S Deepak, 29, son of Shanmughan of Ayirakuzhi in Kottarakkara. Police said a five-member group from Kollam on Thursday reached Kanthalloor to visit their friend who works at Kanthalloor panchayat. They later visited the waterfalls along the Peradi Pallam-Ollavayal route. While they were sitting on the rocks and having food, Deepak reportedly climbed down to a lower part of the rocky area. When he did not return, two of his friends went down in search of him. They saw Deepak attempting to climb back up the rock but suddenly falling down. Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Marayoor, his life could not be saved. TNN
