10-year-old electrocuted by loose socket at Ichalkaranji house function

Kolhapur: A 10-year-old boy was electrocuted after coming into contact with a loose electrical socket connected to a table fan during a housewarming function in Ichalkaranji on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

The deceased, Vihan Shaikh, a resident of Kagal who was about to enroll in Std V, had visited a relative’s house with his parents in the morning for the function. The incident took place right after lunch.

According to the police, Vihan went to fetch water when he accidentally came in contact with a live socket connected to the main power supply. “Unknowingly, his foot touched the loose socket, and he received an electric shock from the exposed live wire,” the boy’s father told the police.

Ichalkaranji police have initiated an inquiry, and likely to book the owner of the house for negligence.
