Kolkata: A former homeguard in Kolkata Police, impersonating an additional superintendent of police (ASP) and duping people by promising them govt jobs in exchange for money, was arrested by the Barasat district police early on Thursday morning with help from local Garfa police. The accused, identified as Susmit Sen, was picked up from a rented house in Garfa, where he was living under a false identity as "ASP, Ranajoy Chatterjee". He is originally from Ganganagar area in North 24 Parganas.
Police said Sen also posed as an SP and travelled in a white SUV fitted with a blue beacon light, donning a fake police uniform and even carrying a replica firearm. He allegedly promised govt jobs to several individuals and collected lakhs of rupees from them, but none ever received employment. One of his victims lodged an FIR at Amdanga PS on Wednesday .
