FIR against Anubrata over 2021 post-poll brick kiln loot

Bolpur: An FIR was registered against Trinamool strongman Anubrata Mondal on Saturday for allegedly orchestrating an attack at a brick kiln owned by a BJP supporter in Bolpur's Kankalitala during the post-poll violence of 2021.The complainant, Subhendu Mondal, has alleged that an armed group of around 100 Trinamool workers had stormed his factory led by Kalkalitala panchayat deputy pradhan Maman Sheikh at Anubrata's direction.Subhendu told police that Trinamool workers forced him and workers of the factory to flee via Kopai river and stole 3 lakh bricks worth Rs 30 lakh.He further said Anubrata's syndicate regularly harassed and extorted large sums of money from him over a prolonged period.The complainant said he had gone to the police as well as the district magistrate with his complaint in 2021, but no one gave him a hearing because of Anubrata's political clout. He added that he was aggressively threatened with dire consequences if he tried to speak up.Police have booked Anubrata under multiple non-bailable charges. Investigators said they have begun a technical probe to assess financial damage and track others involved.
