10 trees topple, waterlogging in pockets
Kolkata: The squall uprooted nearly ten trees in pockets of the city. At least two dozen branches falling off on roads were also reported in central and south Kolkata. Though a couple of arterial stretches were temporarily waterlogged, traffic flow was not disrupted.According to KMC officials, the final count of damaged trees may increase as disaster management teams continue to clear debris from secondary roads and inner lanes. Stretches of Amherst Street and surrounding residential areas experienced waterlogging, forcing commuters to wade through knee-deep water. KMC drainage department personnel were deployed with portable pumps to clear the choked gullies. Parts of Behala and Sarsuna were left without electricity for around an hour in the evening. tnn
