Inquiry into municipal appointment

barasat (n-24 pargana): north 24 pargana district authorites on friday ordered an enquiry into the appointment of casual labourers in rajarhat-gopalpur municipality. informing this, district magistrate hari krishna dwivedi said "i had received several complains about those appointments. i had already asked for an enquiry". municipality chairman tapas chatterjee when asked about those appointments shot back.he said those 700 - odd casual labourers were taken in by the municipality for 'emergency purpose'. he however could not specify what emergency operation the labours are doing. those workers are seen only in maintaining the four kilometre stretch of the vip road. but at each junction about twelve people are found maintaining the traffic.usually two traffic homeguards used to man those positions. it is interesting that all these 'emergengy' labourers man these positions wearing volunteer badges. though the chairman said this has been done to check the accidents none of them are seen after evening. recently the rajarhat town youth congress submitted a memorandum to the municipality chairman to come clean in this matter.the chairman however said he has done nothing wrong.he even insisted he is working according to municipal minister's instruction of employment generation. the locals however do not believe in the appointment story.they say all these appointments were given just before the assembly election to woo these people. incidentally all these labourers are listed workers of a particular political party that is in municipal board of rajarhat-gaopalpur municipality.
