KOLKATA: More members of the notorious Dawood Ibrahim gang, including a cabaret dancer hailing from Kolkata, were arrested in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon in connection with the sensational abduction of Kolkata-based footwear company Khadim's vice-chairman Partha Roy Burman.

kolkata: more members of the notorious dawood ibrahim gang, including a cabaret dancer hailing from kolkata, were arrested in mumbai on sunday afternoon in connection with the sensational abduction of kolkata-based footwear company khadim's vice-chairman partha roy burman, police inspector general (south bengal) prasun mukherjee said on sunday. mukherjee said that the trio arrested from mumbai were in close touch with the dubai-bassed masterminds behind the abduction and had intimate knowledge of the plan and operation of the abduction.

either physically or through information channels, they were in regular touch with their people in mumbai, dubai and kolkata during the abduction. twenty seven-year-old cabaret dancer swati pal, originally from a suburb of kolkata, has been in mumbai for quite sometime. a veritable 'temptress', pal used to shuttle between mumbai and dubai quite often. sources in state criminal investigation department said that she was a part of the planning and operation of the abduction of the shoe-magnet. in an afternoon swoop, pal was arrested by a joint team of the west bengal police and the mumbai police from a hotel at dongra in the outskirts of mumbai city. along with her, another d-company man abdul rehman was arrested from the same hotel. the third man zameel ahmed was picked up from haji ki chawl, a slum area in mumbai suburb. abdul rehman is originally from kerala and has travelled to dubai on several occasions. so has zameel, a mumbaikar. the sleuths are yet to ascertain their criminal antecedents. west bengal criminal investigation department inspector general partha bhattacharjee, who is currently in mumbai, has unearthed a large volume of incriminating documents, mobile phones, sim cards, e-mail addresses, and some retrieved e-mails which indicated the involvement of the arrested persons right from the planning state. the arrests in mumbai came close on the heel of the arrest of four arrests in hyderabad. the d-company men - abdul karimuddin, mehboob ali, khwaja altaf ahmed qureshi, mohammed ishaq - were flown to the city by the police on saturday night and produced to the alipore sdjm court on sunday. they were charged under section 364 a of ipc for kidnapping for ransom, section 307 for attempt to murder and arms act. they were remanded to police custody till august 31. the police said khadim's representative had paid karimuddin rs 3 crore as ransom, which was routed through the hawala channels to dawood's man shafiq alias raju alias shaheed in dubai. investigations had revealed that the d-company men initially planned the abduction of a bangalore-based businessman. the plan did not succeed. they were waiting for another prey. at that time they received information about khadim's which had opened a big showroom at secunderabad. they planned the abduction of khadim's owner. for that, the gang even tapped a khadim's employee, cid sources said. in accordance with the plan, a local contactman was assigned. rabindranath das, the principal of adhatwik aiswariya viswa vidyalaya, who was picked up by cid personnel from farukabad in uttar pradesh, helped the kidnappers to identify partha roy burman and his routes.
