A 13-year-old boy was severely injured when he picked up a country-made bomb, mistaking it for a ball he and his friends were playing with near his home. It took place on P K Tagore Street in Jorabagan on Friday.

Sanjib Srivastav, a student of Class VII, has received severe injuries on his right hand. “It is yet to be finalized whether he needs an amputation or not.

But the burns seem deep,” said an officer.
Srivastav was playing cricket. “Someone hit a cricket ball close to a nearby vat. Srivastav went looking for the ball and picked up the bomb instead. As he hurled it, it exploded,” said a neighbour.
Police have picked up a few local criminals. Locals claimed they had reported criminal activities around the KMC vat even earlier. The detective department is roped in to provide leads on a few ruffians from Pathuriaghata Street. BJP’s Kalyan Chowbey approached police, demanding arrest of the accused.
