‘Win doesn’t mean revenge’: Samik urges peace ahead of count
Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Sunday appealed to both BJP and Trinamool workers to resist provocation and violence ahead of Monday's counting, saying political differences must not translate into vengeance.
"Our primary objective is to change Bengal's political culture — the culture of reprisal and revenge. Whatever we were subjected to after 2016 and again after 2021 should not happen again," Bhattacharya told reporters in Kolkata.
"Winning does not mean that just because someone broke your house or killed your worker last time, you do the same to them. That should not happen. There should be a change in our mindset as well," the BJP state president said further.
He said: "People have voted with a spontaneity we have not seen before. They have said what they had to say — and Trinamool knows the answer too." He assured that counting on May 4 would proceed without hindrance, with forces deployed across all counting centres. ‘There will be no repeat of 2021. The votes that people have cast will not be looted," he said.
State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed BJP would achieve the "magic figure" after counting.
