TMC could not capitalize on leaders leaving LDF: P V Anvar
Kozhikode: Former MLA P V Anvar, who announced his departure from Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday, said that he had written a letter to West Bengal chief minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee claiming that several prominent leaders from LDF and UDF could be brought into the party.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Anvar said that in the letter he mentioned the leaders TMC could approach at a time when the party was being introduced in the state.
Anvar said that many of the leaders he had mentioned were not currently with LDF or CPM and added that TMC, however, could not politically capitalize on the opportunity.
"Leaders like Aisha Potty, P K Sasi and S Rajendran have now changed sides. I had only mentioned how a political party can be taken forward in the state's political scenario and had said that the TMC central leadership should talk with the leaders. Had they taken the initiative, the party could have grown more effectively. But that did not happen," he said.
Anvar also cited TMC's stance on cooperation with Congress as the reason for his departure.
"They are unwilling to consider any form of cooperation or seat-sharing with Congress. Having left LDF after differences with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the only viable political path for me is through association with UDF. In Kerala's political context, refusing to engage with Congress is impractical. That is why I decided to sever ties with the party," he said.
On Monday, TMC released the letter, reportedly sent by Anvar in Nov 2025, in which he claimed that merging his outfit, Democratic Movement of Kerala, with TMC would attract several key leaders from both LDF and UDF.
