BBARABANKI: Two people were killed and two others seriously injured after a trailer rammed into a truck from behind and both vehicles caught fire on the Lucknow-Sultanpur highway in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, police said on Wednesday.
The accident took place near Chaubisi village on Tuesday night and disrupted traffic on the highway for nearly an hour.
According to police, the trailer, carrying four occupants, collided with a truck transporting poultry feed. The impact triggered a fire in both vehicles.
Two people travelling in the trailer were trapped in the blaze and died on the spot, officials said. One of the bodies was recovered from beneath the truck nearly six hours after the accident.
Police said the identities of the deceased are yet to be established. The two injured persons were initially taken to a community health centre and later referred to Lucknow for further treatment.
Haidergarh SHO Anil Kumar Pandey said the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and police are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
