Anyone disrupting religious events will meet fate of Ravan and Kansa, warns Yogi

Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday issued a warning to mafia and criminals that anyone attempting to disrupt religious events such as Ramlila, Yagya Katha, Janmashtami, Ram Navami, Shivratri or Rakshabandhan would “meet the same fate as Ravan and Kansa”.

Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 114 development projects worth over Rs 392 crore at Gandhi Maidan in Mau, the CM said that law and order in Uttar Pradesh has significantly improved under his govt.

“No mafia or criminal now has the audacity to create disturbances during festivals. No mafia can move around in open jeeps waving pistols and threatening any Hindu,” Yogi said.

He further said that anyone threatening the safety of daughters or traders would ultimately face ‘Yamraj’. Referring to Mau as a land of revolutionaries, the CM paid tribute to litterateur Shyam Narayan Pandey, social reformer Swami Sahajanand Saraswati and former Union minister Kalpnath Rai, who, he said, gave Mau a new identity.

“When good people are elected, good governance follows. But when the wrong people are chosen, security is compromised, money meant for public development is looted, the safety of daughters and traders is endangered, and youth face an identity crisis,” he said.

The CM alleged that before 2017, UP witnessed poor law and order, communal unrest and mafia dominance. Referring to the 2005 riots during the Bharat Milap programme in Mau, he claimed that mafia under political patronage had disrupted Ramlila events and targeted innocent Hindus.

Without naming the Samajwadi Party, Yogi alleged that previous govts remained silent against criminals and failed to provide public security.

The CM said the country has witnessed a transformation after Narendra Modi became the PM in 2014. He said Modi believes that govts should focus on four sections — the poor, youth, women and farmers — and added that welfare schemes launched by the Centre were being effectively implemented in BJP-governed states.

Yogi said state govt was working to provide housing, drinking water, roads, bridges and flood protection to every poor citizen. He added that tourism infrastructure, power projects and employment opportunities were also being expanded across the state.

Claiming that development funds were now directly reaching beneficiaries, the CM said encroachment on poor people’s land would not be tolerated. “People know that bulldozers will demolish encroachment and confiscated properties will be used to build houses for the poor,” he said.

Referring to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor, Yogi said public support and voting contributed to these developments as well as to improved law and order in the state.

The CM also announced that a proposal was sought for the expansion of the Ghosi Sugar Mill and said that a medical college was being developed in Mau under the PPP model.

Crediting local public representatives for the district’s development, Yogi assured that “double-engine govt” would continue to support Mau with funds for development projects.
